Fox' SkyCam Lauded For Its Coverage Of Bears' Kickoff Return

Fox' SkyCam "took it to another level" on Bears WR Cordarrelle Patterson's 102-yard kickoff return for a touchdown during yesterday's game against the Saints, according to Phil Rosenthal of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. The floating camera "proved invaluable" on the first-quarter return, as it "twisted, turned and flew, taking viewers along for the ride as Patterson darted past defenders from end zone to end zone." Rosenthal: "It was cinematic. It was gorgeous. It was an all-too-rare situation in which the SkyCam actually proved worthwhile" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/21). YAHOO SPORTS' Frank Schwab writes Patterson's run was "maybe the best SkyCam play ever." It allowed everyone at home to "see the play develop and also was a rare look at the speed and precision of the NFL game from as close as we'll ever get without being in the middle of a play." Schwab: "If you've ever wanted to feel like you're inside of an NFL game, then keep rewatching Patterson's touchdown" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 10/21). THE RINGER's Rodger Sherman writes with the SkyCam's "incredibly close perspective," fans got to see Patterson "make the decisions that made this play magnificent." It was the "greatest possible way to watch the greatest player at a specific type of play performing at his best" (THERINGER.com, 10/21).

THE PERFECT STORM: AWFUL ANNOUNCING's Sean Keeley wrote everything about the camerawork was "pretty much perfect." Keeley: "Chef's kiss to whoever was directing all of that." Fans "wouldn't want the whole game to be from this angle but that's the point." SkyCam is a "tool in the NFL broadcaster's toolbelt that's perfect for situations just like this one" (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 10/20).
