Celtics F JAYLEN BROWN has hired JASON GLUSHON of Glushon Sports Management to "take the lead on contract-extension negotiations" with the team. Brown "did not sign with an agent" after entering the '16 NBA Draft and has instead "mostly worked with 'specialists' on things such as marketing and endorsements." His pay was "locked in on the rookie salary scale for his first four years, but now that he is eligible for an extension, there is more room for actual negotiations" (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/11).

FAME GAME: Toronto Sun sports journalist STEVE SIMMONS was "recognized Thursday when the Football Reporters Of Canada elected him to the media wing" of the Canadian Football HOF (TORONTO SUN, 10/11)....A total of 22 people were honored as part of the inaugural class of the Memphis Sports HOF during a ceremony Thursday, including Memphis men's basketball coach PENNY HARDAWAY. Other inductees included former MLBer TIM MCCARVER, late golfer/TV commentator CARY MIDDLECOFF and former USWNT player CINDY PARLOW CONE (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 10/11).

THE GOOD STUFF: Lions Owner & Chair MARTHA FIRESTONE FORD,Pro Football HOFer BARRY SANDERS, the Lions and Kroger with the "help of more than 1,000 volunteers teamed up to package more than 50,000 boxes of food for families in need in Michigan" at Ford Field on Thursday morning. There were also "hundreds of season-ticket holders pitching in as part of the NFL’s 'Huddle for 100' initiative and the league’s centennial anniversary." Lions QB MATTHEW STAFFORD's wife, KELLY STAFFORD, members of the Ford family and team President ROD WOOD were "among the most recognizable faces putting in the work in addition to Sanders" (MLIVE.com, 10/10).

NAMES: Oregon Gov. KATE BROWN on Thursday helped to "formally kick off" preparations for the IAAF World Championships, which are coming to Eugene in '21. The event "drew a large crowd" at the Univ. of Oregon's Student Recreation Center. Eugene Mayor LUCY VINIS and UO President MICHAEL SCHILL also were in attendance (Eugene REGISTER-GUARD, 10/11)....The NHL each season dedicates November as Hockey Fights Cancer Month, and NBC's EDDIE OLCZYK will be "this year's ambassador, two years after his own diagnosis of Stage 3 colon cancer" (SPORTSNET.ca, 10/8).
