Hundreds of people "gathered to celebrate the life" of late Cardinals Owner BILL BIDWILL at his funeral at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Phoenix yesterday. NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL, Cardinals WR LARRY FITZGERALD and Bidwill's son and Cardinals President MICHAEL BIDWILL delivered eulogies at the service. Approximately 500 people "representing the Cardinals organization were in attendance, through coaches, players, staff and alumni." Cardinals coach KLIFF KINGSBURY and GM STEVE KEIM "walked in together" and former players ROY GREEN and ADRIAN WILSON served as pallbearers. Fellow owners in attendance included Giants' JOHN MARA, Chiefs' CLARK HUNT, Chargers' DEAN SPANOS and Bears' VIRGINIA MCCASKEY (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 10/9).

LEGAL MATTERS: Details have emerged on the settlement between the Univ. of Minnesota-Duluth and former women's hockey coach SHANNON MILLER over her claims of discrimination. The school last week was "formally ordered" to pay $1.96M in damages to Miller, as well as $2.53M in attorney's fees, expenses and interest (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 10/9)....Lawyers for Bucks G STERLING BROWN yesterday asked a judge to "throw out" the city of Milwaukee's "offer to settle his false arrest case for $400,000, calling it a bad faith abuse of the litigation process." Under federal court rules, if Brown were to "win damages less than $400,000 at trial, he would be on the hook for the city's legal fees and costs" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 10/9).

NAMES: AARON STEWART, son of late former golfer PAYNE STEWART, was named Tournament Dir for the Diamonds Resort Tournament of Champions in Orlando. Aaron was "hired by Diamonds Resorts through an intensive training program" (AP, 10/8)....Bucks G PAT CONNAUGHTON launched a "local real estate development," Beach House LLC, of which he is the President. Connaughton's company has "plans to build a four-story building with three luxury apartments in downtown Milwaukee" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 10/7)....More than 20 youth-centered Indiana nonprofits will “receive $50,000 grants for projects that promote mental and physical wellness” ahead of the Pacers and Indianapolis hosting the ‘21 NBA All-Star Game. Organizers will “prioritize projects with a focus on health or education, such as building basketball courts or STEM labs” (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 10/9)....Retired U.S. swimmer ELIZABETH BEISEL has signed a deal with a publisher and is “working on her first book.” The three-time Olympian was a contestant on Season 39 of “Survivor,” which is currently airing on CBS (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 10/9)....CBS’ IAN BAKER-FINCH will captain the Australian golf team in the Tokyo Games for the second time (AP, 10/8)....The Chargers yesterday held a yoga session at their practice facility as part of the team’s efforts to "promote breast cancer awareness this month" (L.A.
