Memphis Latest College Hoops Program To Get ESPN+ Series

Filming had not yet begun as of yesterday, but the ESPN+ show is expected to premiere in NovemberGETTY IMAGES

The Univ. of Memphis men's basketball team this season will be "documented by an ESPN+ production crew and broadcast as a regular series by the video streaming subscription service throughout the season," according to Jason Munz of the Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL. ESPN+ is "expected to drop the premiere episode in mid-November." Filming "had not yet begun" as of yesterday, when Memphis held its first official practice. Memphis has the "No. 1 recruiting class in the country," which includes C James Wiseman, who "some forecast as the top pick in next year's NBA draft." ESPN+ produced an 8-episode series last college basketball season, focusing on Duke (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 9/25).

THANKS BUT NO THANKS: FAU football coach Lane Kiffin said that he has "declined requests from TV networks who have shown interest in doing behind-the-scenes programs -- similar to HBO’s 'Hard Knocks'" -- about his team. Kiffin did "not name the networks that reached out." A college version of "Hard Knocks," dubbed "24/7 College Football," premieres on HBO Oct. 2 and will feature Florida, Penn State, Washington State and Arizona State (PALM BEACH POST, 9/25).
