Liberty Univ. Extends Sponsor Deal With Hendrick Motorsports' Byron
Hendrick Motorsports has signed Liberty Univ. to a two-year extension in its role as primary sponsor of HMS’ No. 24 Chevrolet driven by William Byron. Liberty will continue to have 12 primary sponsorships during the 36-race NASCAR Cup Series season in ’20 and ’21, but financial terms were not disclosed. Primary sponsorships at a top team like HMS typically run in the low to mid six figures per race. Liberty, the Christian university based in Virginia, has been a longtime sponsor of Byron even pre-dating his ascension to HMS, as he is an undergraduate student of the school’s online program, studying business communications. School President Jerry Falwell Jr. in a statement said, “William and Hendrick Motorsports have always been a perfect fit for Liberty University. We share the same values and are committed to the same mission that makes champions on the racetrack and champions in life.” The deal will be announced later this afternoon. Axalta is the other major sponsor on the No. 24, while it has a couple other less visible primary partners like Hertz and UniFirst. Meanwhile, HMS has yet to announce a replacement sponsor for Nationwide Insurance, which will drop its deal with the team’s No. 88 car after this season. HMS announced a replacement for Lowe’s in Ally Financial in late October last year.
