Odell Beckham Jr. Endorsing Daniel Wellington Watch Brand
Swedish watchmaker Daniel Wellington has agreed to a partnership with Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr., who "wore an expensive Richard Mille watch" during Week 1 and then "appeared to wear another one during warmups" prior to "MNF," according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER. After the Browns' victory on Monday, Beckham "gave a shoutout in his postgame press conference to Daniel Wellington, for whom he’s a new brand ambassador." Beckham: "Daniel Wellington might be a better watch than [Richard Mille], a little classier, not as flashy as this one. I’m just blessed" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 9/19). In N.Y., Greg Joyce notes Beckham on Monday night "ditched" the Richard Mille "in time for the game, and the authenticity of the watch has been questioned" (N.Y. POST, 9/19). ESPN.com's Jake Trotter noted Beckham's watches have "created a buzz on social media," but he was "coy about whether all of it was orchestrated going into the announcement with Daniel Wellington." Beckham: "Always a method to the madness" (ESPN.com, 9/18).
IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME: YAHOO SPORTS' Shalise Manza Young notes Daniel Wellington's "most expensive men’s model is $199." If the company is "bothered" by Beckham's theatrics, it "isn’t showing it." After unveiling Beckham as the company’s newest icon, the company tweeted, “We are so proud to work with (Beckham), who besides from being an amazing athlete clearly loves watches. If we’re his second choice after a six-figure watch, we’re happy" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 9/19).
