Cavaliers Broadcaster Fred McLeod Passes Away At 67

Fred McLeod, the play-by-play voice of the Cavaliers on FS Ohio since the '06-07 NBA season, "passed away suddenly" last night, according to Kevin Kleps of CRAIN'S CLEVELAND BUSINESS. McLeod, 67, was the Cavs' TV voice for 14 seasons, including a one-year stint during the '79-80 campaign. He also "served as the Cavs' executive producer for multimedia -- a role in which he provided behind-the-scenes access to the team on Cavs.com, Cavs HQ and the franchise's Twitter and Facebook accounts." Prior to his stint with the Cavs, he was the TV voice of the Pistons for 22 seasons. He also "served as a TV reporter in Detroit," and broadcast games for the Lions and Tigers (CRAINSCLEVELAND.com, 9/10). McLeod won multiple regional Emmy Awards and was "one of the most accomplished and respected announcers in the NBA" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 9/10).
