Average MLB Attendance Still Down Slightly Heading Into Home Stretch

With 25 days left in the '19 MLB regular season, teams are averaging 28,483 fans per game, down 1.6% from the same period last season. Contributing to MLB's hurting attendance figures are the eight teams experiencing double-digit percentage drops in average home attendance, including the Nationals (-12.6%) and the Indians (-10.9%), both of whom are still very much alive in the '19 playoff picture. The Blue Jays have experienced the sharpest drop at 25.8% year-over-year, while the Phillies, sparked by the offseason acquisition of RF Bryce Harper and a second half run toward the playoffs, have had the biggest jump (23.1%). Other teams with double-digit increases include the Mets, Padres, Twins, Reds and White Sox. Meanwhile, the Marlins, who were last in average attendance in '18, are last again this season, averaging just 9,841 fans per home game.
