Overnight Ratings: Tour Championship Strong In New Slot

The Tour Championship drew a 2.9 overnight rating on NBC yesterday afternoon, which saw Rory McIlroy win the event and the FedExCup Playoffs. Yesterday was the first time the event was held in late August after the PGA Tour shuffled its schedule for the '18-19 season. The rating this year is down 34% from ’18 (4.4 overnight), but that was Tiger Woods’ first win on Tour since ’13 and marked the best final round on record for the Tour Championship. Woods did not qualify for this year's final event. While down from '18, yesterday was the second-highest rating for the Tour Championship final round over the last decade. Two years ago, in a similar late September spot, NBC drew a 1.5 for the final round as Xander Schauffele beat Justin Thomas.

NOTES: NBC last night drew a 4.5 overnight for the Steelers-Titans game, marking the best preseason rating for ’19 to date. Pittsburgh led all markets with a 31.9 local rating, followed by Nashville with a 14.1. After ranking dead last among markets for the Super Bowl broadcast, the New Orleans market also looks to be back, ranking No. 3 last night....ESPN last night drew a 1.9 overnight for Yankees-Dodgers, which is tied for the best “Sunday Night Baseball” rating this season to date....ABC drew a 2.0 overnight for the Little League World Series world championship yesterday afternoon, which saw River Ridge, La., defeat Curacao. That figure is down from a 2.2 last year and a 2.1 two years ago.
