"Ballers" Addresses Tyreek Hill Situation In Season 5 Premiere

The Season 5 premiere of HBO's "BALLERS" aired last night and immediately dove into the TYREEK HILL situation, which in the show has resulted in the HUNT family wanting to sell the Chiefs. The fictional owner of the Cowboys on a call with Spencer Strasmore, played by DWAYNE JOHNSON, says Hill's domestic violence case has "put the Hunts over the edge" and he wants Strasmore to buy the Chiefs. Strasmore initially shuts down the idea, but by the end of the episode decides to pursue it after an NFL exec visits his home. Both the Cowboys owner and NFL exec acknowledge Strasmore's appeal, as he would be the NFL's first black majority owner. Strasmore and the Cowboys owner also discussed impending CBA negotiations and the possibility of an 18-game schedule, which figure to be ongoing themes of the show's final season. The Cowboys owner said, “Nobody wins with a strike.” Strasmore replied, “Well, maybe you should communicate better with your players, especially if you want them to play 18 games.”

SIGNS OF THE TIMES: Another prominent storyline on the episode was the use of PEDs by fictional Rams WR Ricky Jerrett, played by JOHN DAVID WASHINGTON. Jerrett tests positive for a banned substance after taking PEDs and decides not to appeal his four-game suspension on the advice of his agent, a trend seen by many real-life NFLers recently. The move to not appeal then leads to his agent brokering a new two-year deal with the Rams. Meanwhile, fictional Cowboys DT Vernon Littlefield, played by DONOVAN CARTER, is shown attending a live League of Legends event. Littlefield in a conversation with his manager expresses his desire to quit football and pursue a career in esports. In a preview for the rest of the season, he is shown competing in an esports event.

KEEPING IT 100: The show's intro theme song included updated images of the under-construction Inglewood stadium and video of construction workers on site throwing footballs while wearing Rams-branded hard hats.
