Marlins Streaming Numbers Up 37% In '19, While Linear Ratings Drop

The Marlins' increase in streaming numbers this season comes on top of a 168% spike from '17 to '18GETTY IMAGES

The Marlins' streaming numbers for live game telecasts are up 37% this season, while their TV ratings on FS Florida are down 13% from '18, according to Wells Dusenbury of the South Florida SUN SENTINEL. The increase in streaming "comes on the heels of a 168% spike" from '17 to '18. Marlins CRO Adam Jones said, "(The streaming numbers) are (encouraging). It’s indicative of the shift and consumption patterns of content in general and sports broadcasts to the stream and away from the linear broadcast and traditional cable." He added, "So while the ratings that are published and commonly referred to have sort of held in a steady position with a slight dip -- what we’ve seen from the streaming side has been positive and indicative of where we think the consumption and engagement is headed." Jones said that he has been "impressed by the overall engagement he’s seen around the franchise and believes it’s moving in the right direction." Jones: "Engagement in conversation on social, sentiment and volume of feedback through Dimelo; the amount of sentiment through traditional media -- if you baseline to a year ago or years prior to the activity that’s there today, there’s a marked shift in both the amount of engagement and amount of positive engagement across those different mediums" (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 7/25).
