AT&T CEO: WarnerMedia's HBO Max Will Get Live Sports Content
AT&T Chair & CEO Randall Stephenson said that NBA and MLB games now playing on TNT, Turner and other WarnerMedia platforms are "headed to the studio's upcoming streaming service, HBO Max," according to Szalai & Vlessing of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Stephenson said, "This won't be at the early stages of HBO Max, but you can assume ultimately HBO Max will have live elements." Stephenson pointed to Turner and Bleacher Report as "assets ripe for monetization on WarnerMedia's streaming service," which is set to launch next spring. Stephenson: "We have some great exclusive content in 'The Bleacher Report,' from NBA to soccer, European soccer. So a lot of opportunities to take advantage of unique content deals we have in WarnerMedia" (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 7/24). Stephenson also said that while NFL Sunday Ticket will "serve DirecTV well as a retention tool for the satellite product moving into the fall, he would like to utilize it as a tool for growth at HBO Max" (CABLEFAX DAILY, 7/25).
