Texans Chair & CEO Cal McNair did not specifically address firing GM Brain Gaine in an interview with KILT-AM, the Texans' flagship station, but said the team is now a "flatter organization with a faster management style," according to Aaron Wilson of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. McNair added, "The organization is totally re-energized with a team-based approach and new leadership based on sub programs with each sub program being fully optimized as a goal." Addressing the GM-by-committee approach, McNair "expressed confidence that the Texans will be able to operate without a general manager, including executing trades and contract extensions." McNair said, "It's kind of funny I've heard on the radio that people are worried about how will people know who to contact for how to make a trade. I promise you people will know who to contact to make a trade." More McNair: "They've called different guys in our organization. Someone will get called, if there's an interest. We'll handle that call. We'll have a meeting to talk about extensions. We'll get together as a group. We'll make a plan and then we'll go execute the plan. You'll see that this year." Meanwhile, McNair "emphasized the Texans' facility improvements over the past year, including the addition of a virtual reality video room for players to simulate what they'll see on the field" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/23). Meanwhile, the Bills are hiring Gaine as a "Senior Personnel Advisor, where hell assist on both pro and college scouting" (TWITTER.com, 7/23).
