Sale Of CFL Alouettes Could Be Completed By End Of This Month

Peter Lenkov is expected to be at the Alouettes' next game on Saturday at Molson StadiumGETTY IMAGES

There is a "good possibility" that the CFL Montreal Alouettes "could have new owners in place by the end of the month," according to Stu Cowan of the MONTREAL GAZETTE. The prospective new owners are Hollywood producer/writer Peter Lenkov and lawyer Jeffrey Lenkov, brothers who grew up in Chomedey, Quebec, and "now live in California." Peter on Saturday "sent out several tweets regarding the Alouettes, celebrating their victory" over the Ottawa Redblacks and "mentioning the fact he will be at next Saturday’s game at Molson Stadium against the Edmonton Eskimos." Alouettes President & CEO Patrick Boivin said the Lenkovs are in an "exclusive process" with the CFL, adding, "Things are progressing well and I think they have some confidence that hopefully things will come to fruition" (MONTREAL GAZETTE, 7/14). Meanwhile, the Alouettes yesterday fired GM Kavis Reed. Boivin said that in order to "avoid 'legal trouble,'" the reasoning for the move is not being made public right now. However, Boivin did say that the firing was "unrelated to the team’s impending sale or the performance on the field." The CP's Kelsey Patterson noted it is "unclear if the issues that led to Reed’s dismissal were on a personal or professional level" (CP, 7/14).
