Las Vegas Aviators Surpass $1M In Merchandise Sales At New Ballpark

The Aviators' white home and gray away jerseys have sold particularly well so far this seasonAVIATORS

Merchandise sales for the Triple-A PCL Las Vegas Aviators at the team's new ballpark "recently cracked" the $1M barrier this season, despite the fact that the Aviators' logo was "not exactly a hit" among local fans after its unveiling in December, according to Alan Snel of LVSPORTSBIZ.com. The ballcaps with the "LV" logo have been "hot sellers and even white home and gray away Aviators jerseys sold well." Breaking the $1M mark in merch sales is "impressive for a minor league team." For the Aviators, it is a "byproduct of the team focusing solely on selling Aviators gear in their team store in Year 1 in Downtown Summerlin." Unlike at Cashman Field where the team store "sold other minor league team items, the Aviators ballpark team store features only merchandise of the Aviators; their Hispanic-themed counterparts, the Reyes de Plata;" and the A's, their MLB parent team (LVSPORTSBIZ.com, 7/2).

DEFENDING THE THRONE: In Charlotte, Steve Lyttle noted the Triple-A PCL Knights are "facing an uphill battle" to defend their MiLB baseball attendance title. The Knights have "drawn an average of 8,257 fans in their first 41 dates this year at BB&T Ballpark -- a decrease of 723 per game from last season." The Knights "rank fifth among minor league teams in average attendance." Rainy weather in April and parts of June "helped cut into attendance." In Las Vegas, the Aviators' new ballpark has helped them vault into a "big lead this season," averaging 9,495 fans per contest through 42 dates (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 7/2).
