Summer Of '69: Nats Celebrating Expos With Throwback Uniforms

The Nationals will "throw it back to 1969" when they host the Royals at Nationals Park on July 6, as they will wear for the first time "Montreal Expos throwback uniforms -- specifically, the powder blue away jerseys and pants the expansion franchise wore with its classic tri-color cap during its inaugural season," according to Scott Allen of the WASHINGTON POST. The Royals, who were also an expansion team in that '69 season, will wear "throwback versions of their original road gray uniforms featuring 'Kansas City' in blue script." The throwback theme will extend to the graphics on the scoreboards, with the Expos' "stylized 'M' replacing the Nationals' curly 'W' for a day." The Nationals also will "offer several specialty food items for the occasion." Poutine "will be available," and the ballpark will serve "Montreal smoked beef brisket sandwiches." Meanwhile, Baseball HOFer Vladimir Guerrero, who played the first seven years of his career with the Expos, "will be in attendance, and the Nationals will recognize several members of their current staff with Expos ties" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/26).
