Media Notes

In Columbus, Brian Hedger notes the sale of Dispatch Broadcast Group’s former television and radio stations last week "has not affected" negotiations to keep WBNS-FM as the Blue Jackets’ flagship radio station. WBNS VP & GM Todd Markiewicz said that a new deal to carry Blue Jackets games "could be reached relatively soon." The station has been the Blue Jackets’ flagship "since the team’s inception" in '00-01 (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 6/20).

THINKING AHEAD: In N.Y., Andrew Marchand cites sources as saying that while Panthers TE Greg Olsen is returning to play this season, he "still could end up in the broadcast booth" for one game. Fox is "figuring out if Olsen can work a game on Oct. 20, the Panthers’ bye week." Olsen would "likely be in a two-man booth." Olsen has "spoken with networks the last two offseasons and, if this is his final season playing, he could be in a booth full-time next year" (N.Y. POST, 6/20).

NEW CAREER UNDERWAY: Recently retired QB Josh McCown yesterday made his debut as an ESPN analyst on "NFL Live," listing the Falcons' Julio Jones as his pick for the NFL's top wide receiver. ESPN's David Lloyd said, "I gave you a tough assignment right away. First of all, you're going to have to deal with the touchscreen" ("NFL Live," ESPN, 6/19).
