MLB To Debut Exclusive 13-Game Schedule On YouTube Next Month

The July 18 Dodgers-Phillies matchup "will be the first MLB game to air exclusively on YouTube," kicking off a 13-game partnership between the league and video site, according to Rob Tornoe of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. MLB Network's Scott Braun will call the game alongside one analyst from each team's home network -- NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Kruk and SportsNet L.A.'s Orel Hershiser. The game will air "free of charge on MLB’s official YouTube channel on any device" and will stream "on a yet-to-be-launched MLB channel on YouTube TV" that does require a subscription. There will be no commercials during the YouTube broadcasts (INQUIRER.com, 6/19). REUTERS's Hilary Russ noted all 13 games "will include pregame and postgame shows." The YouTube deal is "one of several showing how digital platforms, streaming services and social media networks have been stepping into live sports" (REUTERS, 6/19).
