Demolition Begins For New Golden Knights' Community Ice Center

Demolition began on the downtown convention center in Henderson, Nev., which the Golden Knights will be "converting into an NHL ice facility," according to Justin Emerson of the LAS VEGAS SUN. The arena is "tentatively being called Vegas Golden Knights at Henderson, and is set to open" in July '20. While City National Arena will "remain the team's practice venue, the new facility will host youth hockey programs similar to those at the Summerlin facility." The Henderson venue will "include two NHL-sized rinks, as well as a restaurant overlooking the ice," which will "host watch parties for Golden Knights games, as well as player and executive appearances." The city of Henderson is "doing what it can to grab onto the valley's burgeoning pro sports scene," with the Raiders "building a practice facility" there as well (LAS VEGAS SUN, 6/4). In Las Vegas, Clark & Snel noted the city of Henderson is "giving the Golden Knights" more than $10M toward the construction of the $25M facility. The Golden Knights will be "selling the naming rights" for the ice center (LVSPORTSBIZ.com, 6/3).
