Choctaw Casino Hopes Expanded Rangers Deal Leads To Sports Betting

The MLB Rangers expanded their sponsorship agreement with Choctaw Casinos & Resorts, and one casino official said that the tribe is "interested in bringing baseball proposition bets" to fans at their Durant, Okla., venue, or "maybe someday to Globe Life Field," according to David Kent of the Ft. Worth STAR-TELEGRAM. Choctaw Senior Exec Dir of Commerce Janie Dillard said, "I am really hoping, with our sponsorship we’re doing here, we’ll be on the ground level of that. We maybe could even help push that. We could maybe be instrumental in getting that in Texas, and we could be a big part of it." However, Rangers Exec VP/Business Operations Rob Matwick said that the team "doesn’t want to create the impression that it’s lobbying for sports betting." He added that the state of Texas' elected leaders "would have to decide if they want to legalize sports betting and, if so, what kind of licensing and regulatory procedures to put in place." Matwick did acknowledge that team officials have "discussed the subject privately." Meanwhile, Globe Life Field is 62% complete, and workers are "preparing to pour concrete for the home dugout." Also, the retractable roof is "taking shape" (Ft. Worth STAR-TELEGRAM, 5/31).
