Franchise Notes

In Phoenix, Richard Morin cited a source as saying that the Coyotes have been "seeking creative ownership solutions for quite some time," and now there is "at least one group with whom the Coyotes have had advanced discussions" about a potential team sale. If the deal were to "pan out," Owner Andrew Barroway "would step into a minority role." Barroway became the club’s sole owner in July '17. Still, the source said that there is "no indication that an official transaction is imminent," and it is "premature to assume that a deal is close to being finalized" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 5/25).

STORM SURGE: A sold-out crowd of 8,500 was at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Wash., for the Mercury-Storm game on Saturday, and if that is any "indication of the kind of crowds the Storm will receive" while they are displaced due to the KeyArena renovations, there will be "no drop-off in home-court advantage, despite the 30-mile drive north.” Storm assistant coach Gary Kloppenburg said the atmosphere was “fantastic” in Everett. Fans throughout the game were “whooping and hollering, banging their fluorescent green thundersticks together” (HERALDNET.com, 5/26).

DAMAGE CONTROL: A federal appeals court ruled that the Buccaneers are "not entitled to damages from BP" for the '10 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The team argued that the '10 spill "caused the team's revenues to fall." The Bucs had sought $19.5M in damages (AP, 5/26).
