Franchise Notes

THE ATHLETIC's Ken Rosenthal noted MLB for more than a year has asked the Orioles to "appoint a control person in place" of longtime Owner Peter Angelos, who is in "poor health." The Orioles "still have not responded" to MLB's request, though Angelos' sons, Exec VP John Angelos and Ownership Rep Lou Angelos, have "assumed more prominent roles with the club and attended recent owners' meetings." Either would be a "logical choice to replace" Peter Angelos as the control person, but the "necessary approval from 3/4 of the 29 other clubs might be an issue, given the strained relationship" between the Orioles and MLB (THEATHLETIC.com, 5/15).

IN THE LION'S DEN: Lions President Rod Wood "declined to say" if the team has "plans to officially retire any jersey numbers." The Lions have "trended towards taking numbers out of circulation rather than retire them." Meanwhile, Wood said that he "expects to learn soon whether the team will be on 'Hard Knocks'" this season (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 5/16).

SOCCER FOR ALL: FC Dallas is "hosting its first ever LGBTQ Pride Night" at Toyota Stadium as part of the MLS' Soccer For All campaign. The scheduled June 1 date for the event coincides with the Dallas Pride weekend festival. Around MLS, and in sports "as a whole, dedicating a night to recognize the LGBTQ community has been an increasing trend" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 5/16).
