Tiger Cutting Back Mock Turtle Neck Usage At PGA Championship

Woods sported the mock turtleneck look during all four rounds of his Masters win last monthGETTY IMAGES

Tiger Woods will "only wear the mock neck style on Sunday at the PGA Championship," opting Thursday-Saturday for the "traditional collar shirt styles of the Nike TW Vapor Block Polo," according to Brittany Romano of GOLF DIGEST. Woods will "start the week out in the blue color-blocked stripe shirt and grey pants." On Friday and Saturday, Woods will "stick with a quieter color palette in a black striped shirt on Friday and white stripes on Saturday." The looks are also "in line with the Nike team's scripting that was inspired by nearby New York City style scene and 1990s color-blocking patterns." Viewers should "expect to see similar color palettes of bright blue, red and black from other Nike athletes like Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy" (GOLFDIGEST.com, 5/13).

SHOP SURGE: In Jacksonville, Garry Smits noted "no one is rooting harder" for Woods than those who "make their living in the golf industry -- especially the retail equipment and clothing companies that have taken among the hardest hits" since Woods’ major drought began in '08. Woods' Masters victory "means the possibility of a strong trickle-down effect that is being seen by First Coast golf retail stores." Masterfit Golf Range co-Owner John Schroeder said that there was a 30% "bump in overall business at the company’s Orange Park store and Jacksonville range and teaching facility the week after Woods won the Masters." Jacksonville Edwin Watts store GM Tom Ashton said that his store "sold several sets of the TaylorMade irons Woods is using the week after the Masters and that sales of Bridgestone balls, which Woods began using two years ago, began a slow rise after he won the Tour Championship that has spiked since the Masters" (JACKSONVILLE.com, 5/12).
