Overnight Ratings: Strong Derby Helps NHL To Big Figure

NBC drew a 10.9 for the race portion of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday from 6:30-7:30pm ET, as a 14-minute review following the race concluded with Country House being named the winner after Maximum Security was disqualified. That figure is tied with ’92 as the best overnight since ’90, when Unbridled won. This year’s race is up 20% from a 9.1 last year. Saturday’s telecast peaked at an 11.9 from 6:45-7:00pm. Louisville drew a 39.5 local rating to lead all markets. That is the market’s best figure since it drew a 43.7 in ’13. The drama of the Derby this year also helped the NHL game on NBC in primetime. Game 5 of the Blue Jackets-Bruins Eastern Conference Semifinals drew a 3.2 rating on Saturday night, which is the league’s second-best figure for a playoff game outside the Stanley Cup Final on record (dating back to ’94). Last year’s post-Derby NHL game, Capitals-Penguins Game 5, drew a 2.9 overnight.

BEARD GROWTH: ABC on Saturday night drew a 5.5 overnight for Rockets-Warriors Game 3 on Saturday night, which marks the network’s best primetime conference semifinals telecast since ’11. The S.F.-San Jose-Oakland market drew a 18.2 local rating for the game, while Houston drew an 11.8.
