MLS, U.S. Soccer Sign Deal With Meditation App Headspace

MLS and U.S. Soccer have signed a three-year partnership with meditation and mindfulness app Headspace, which will provide subscriptions of the service to federation and league players, coaches and league and club staff. Headspace will create a personalized training program for USWNT players to support their preparation for the ’19 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The company also will conduct in-person introductory training sessions with U.S. Soccer and MLS athletes and coaches, taking place during USMNT and USWNT training camps and at various MLS events. Headspace, which was founded in ’10 and has more than 45 million users in 190 countries, also operates a B2B business that has worked with organizations such as Amazon, Google, Nike and the NBA. MLS and U.S. Soccer athletes and coaching staff will have access to Headspace’s library of meditation content, which includes “Headspace for Sport,” a program designed to strengthen mindfulness and meditation skills through a variety of 10-session “packs,” including motivation, concentration, training, competition, communication, analysis and recovery. In addition, the three organizations will explore scientific research opportunities around the benefits of meditation and mindfulness related to performance. They will also have the opportunity to co-create mental training content specific to soccer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
