Turner, CBS See 9% Uptick For Men's NCAA Tournament Viewership

The NCAA men's basketball tournament saw a 9% increase in viewership this year across CBS, TBS, TNT, truTV and March Madness Live. The total audience delivery (TV+digital) was 10.9 million viewers, up from 10.0 million last year. Two years ago, the tourney had a TV-only average of 10.8 million viewers (digital viewership not available). The high mark over the last decade remains ’15, when the tourney averaged 11.3 million viewers. Back in ’10, which was the last time CBS had the event to itself, the network averaged only 9.5 million viewers. For TV alone this year, the event had 10.3 million viewers on CBS/TBS/TNT/truTV. MML also set all-time tourney records this year in live streams and live hours consumed.

BUNCH OF WAHOOS: CBS on Monday night finished with 19.6 million viewers for Virginia’s OT win over Texas Tech in the national championship, up from just under 16.0 million viewers last year on TBS/TNT/truTV for Villanova-Michigan, which was an all-time TV low for the men’s title game (audience went to 16.5 million last year with MML included). Two years ago, CBS drew just under 23.0 million viewers for the North Carolina-Gonzaga game. Monday night’s game peaked with 23.5 million viewers from 11:30-11:45pm ET.
