Documents from a Detroit-Wayne County Stadium Authority meeting in November show that Ford Field will "have new artificial grass laid" before next season begins, according to Bill Shea of CRAIN'S DETROIT. Sources said that the new turf project is a "go and should be announced within a few weeks" (CRAINSDETROIT.com, 4/7). In Michigan, Kyle Meinke noted Ford Field's current turf, FieldTurf Classic, was installed in '13. It is "supposed to last a decade, but the turf is already the second-oldest artificial surface in the league." Lions President Rod Wood last month said that "no big projects were underway at Ford Field, which has undergone a major face lift in recent years." Ford Field opened in '02, with the original playing surface lasting through the '12 NFL season before being replaced in '13 (MLIVE.com, 4/8).
