Under Armour In Trademark Dispute With Oregon Clothier

Under Armour believes that the company's use of 'armory' is a trademark infringementCASCADE ARMORY

Founders of an Oregon-based clothing company have "become embroiled in a trademark dispute" with Under Armour, according to Suzanne Roig of the Bend BULLETIN. Cascade Armory co-Founders Diana and Alex Short "ran into opposition" when trying to trademark their company's name from UA, which "sent a cease-and-desist order to the Shorts late last year alleging that the company is creating brand confusion" due to a similar-sounding name. The company "markets clothing that reflects Central Oregon’s outdoorsy lifestyle and might be worn camping," including hoodies, flannel shirts, hats and scarves. Cascade Armory's logo "includes an elk head with the words 'Bend Oregon' printed on the sides and 'Peaks to Streets' written below." Alex Short said UA believes his company is "not allowed to use the name armory." Diana Short: "Under Armour is claiming we’re creating an unfair marketplace for them. Our company of four employees is creating an unfair marketplace for Under Armour. It’s absurd" (Bend BULLETIN, 3/29).
