MLB People & Personalities: Guerin Austin's Status In Limbo On NESN

Austin for reasons unknown is not on the NESN schedule following the first few weeks of the seasonGETTY IMAGES

In Boston, Chad Finn reports Guerin Austin's future as NESN's Red Sox sideline reporter "appears to be uncertain." Sources said that Austin is "not on the schedule for a couple of months following the first few weeks of the season, and her role has been left unclear." She is working the Red Sox' season-opening road trip in her "familiar role" and is "scheduled to work at least part of the Red Sox' first homestand" (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/29).

IN A BETTER PLACE: In Seattle, Larry Stone notes Alex Rodriguez is "front and center these days" as part of ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" crew, and he "finally resonates" with the baseball public. During his playing career, no one "tried harder at coming off as genuine" than Rodriguez, and no one "failed more miserably." However, there is "now a sincerity and warmth that shines through" (SEATTLE TIMES, 3/29).

NOTES: Mike Claiborne appeared next to John Rooney on the radio call for the Cardinals' opener against the Brewers at Miller Park after Ricky Horton "had surgery this week to reattach a knee tendon that had been ruptured." Claiborne will work the "rest of that four-game series" as well as "two games next week in Pittsburgh" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 3/29)....Jimmy Rollins will serve as a game analyst on NBC Sports Philadelphia for several Phillies contests this season, the first coming on April 22 (Phillies).
