League Notes

In Ft. Lauderdale, Dave Hyde notes the ATP/WTA Miami Open has drawn "record crowds for every day but one." The logistics of tennis at Hard Rock Stadium are "working just fine, even perfectly on the side courts." However, there is "no way around" the main court looking like a tennis court "dropped into a football stadium." While the tournament's new locale has been a hot topic of discussion, what "isn’t the talk at this tournament" is stars. Hyde: "Particularly, American stars. They keep departing" (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 3/26).

NEVER-ENDING PROCESS: IndyCar President Jay Frye called his more than two-year pursuit of a third original engine manufacturer (OEM) a "fascinating, frustrating" process. In Indianapolis, Jim Ayello wrote it has been "fascinating for all the twists and turns the journey has taken along the way; frustrating for how agonizingly close the journey has come to ending the way Frye and the rest of the paddock have dreamed." Frye said that he has twice "reached agreements with different manufactures only to have the rug pulled out from under him" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 3/24).

PICTURE THIS: In K.C., Pete Grathoff noted 28 NFL GMs "sat for a photo" yesterday at the NFL's spring meetings that was shared on Twitter by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Fans "took note of the lack of diversity among the general managers, and many were not happy" (KANSASCITY.com, 3/25).
