Twins President Alludes To Target Field Going Cashless In Near Future

Target Field could be next up to go cash-free as, as Twins President Dave St. Peter said the team sees a "trend line and I think you will see us move in that direction.” He said Target Field and concessionaire Delaware North will continue to take cash this season but will try out more credit and debit card-only points of sale. St. Peter: “I will say over time -- certainly in advance of 2020 -- I will not be surprised to see Target Field be cashless.” Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Tropicana Field have already adopted cash-free models for concessions and merchandise sales. Plenty of other venues are also testing or looking at the idea. Yesterday, the Twins also announced a new deal with biometrics firm Clear, giving fans who sign up through the company expedited ballpark entry. The Twins could expand that Clear deal to include biometric purchases of concessions and tickets. “We believe strategic partners such as Clear are central to the future of the Target Field experience, which continues to evolve in exciting, progressive ways,” St. Peter said. The Twins will have a Clear lane at Gate 34. The area was renovated and expanded this offseason. Last year, fans at CenturyLink Field and what is now T-Mobile Park in Seattle could start buying concessions and alcohol and verify their age via a Clear membership and fingerprint scan.
