McIntyre Out At The Big Lead After Sale From Gannett To Minute Media

USA Today parent company Gannett "has sold" sports, media and pop culture website The Big Lead to Minute Media, and Big Lead co-Founder Jason McIntyre is "not going to be a part of the site going forward," according to Andrew Marchand of the N.Y. POST. Minute Media has "slashed the staff in half," leaving Ryan Glasspegiel, Bobby Burack, Kyle Koster and Ryan Phillips behind as the four writers. Minute Media President Rich Routman said that they "will be adding more" writers, but he "doesn't want to duplicate what it already does with its site, 12Up.com." Marchand notes McIntyre has "transitioned from the internet into a TV and radio career, as he is a FS1 contributor on its various sports talk programs." He "hosts his own weekly radio show on Fox Sports Radio" and has also been a "part of TVG's Fanduel shows." Routman said that the reason that McIntyre "didn't make the transition from Gannett is because his company wants to leverage its new site with its own 12Up.com." The site's Editor In Chief Brian Giuffra "will assume oversight over The Big Lead, making McIntyre expendable" (N.Y. POST, 3/15). ADWEEK's Sara Jerde noted The Big Lead "launched as a sports blog" in '06 by McIntyre and David Lessa "before it sold a few years later to Fantasy Sports Ventures and ultimately landing with Gannett" in '12. McIntyre had previously "followed the company to each new owner" (ADWEEK.com, 3/14).
