SNY Replacing "Daily News Live" With New Half-Hour Talk Show

SNY's contract with the N.Y. Daily News was set to expire later this monthdan graca

SNY is "cancelling 'Daily News Live'" after 13 years and "replacing it with 'The Thread' a fast-paced show covering the hottest sports news of the day," according to Bob Raissman of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. The "DNL" grand finale will air March 15, and "The Thread" will debut March 28. SNY's Justine Ward will "host the show with the versatile Dan Graca playing a prominent role." The half-hour program will also "feature personalities from the social media world." SNY Senior VP/Content Development Brad Como said that the decision to make the change "was made" late in '18. SNY's contract with the N.Y. Daily News was "set to expire this month." "DNL" host Jonas Schwartz now "moves on to anchor 'SportsNite' and returns to his role as host of the Jets pre- and post-game show" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/8). In N.Y., Andrew Marchand notes some of the "DNL" regulars will "appear on the new program." After the N.Y. Daily News let go the majority of its sports staff last year, "DNL" often "featured ex-staff writers, which always seemed a bit awkward." At the inception of the program, the plan was to have "sports writers from all different papers on the show, but opposing newspapers balked at that idea" (N.Y. POST, 3/8).
