Audience Analysis: NASCAR Sees Drops For Cup, Xfinity At Daytona

It was not the best opening week for NASCAR from Daytona. Things started on Thursday night with the Gander RV Duel on FS1, and that audience of 1.7 million viewers was down 13%. On Saturday, the Xfinity Series opener on FS1 (1.5 million) was down 17%. Things wrapped up Sunday with the Daytona 500 seeing another record-low viewership. One bright spot was the Gander Outdoors Truck Series opener on FS1 on Friday night (1.1 million), which was up 13%.

NOTES: Golf Channel was again the beneficiary of a late-running PGA Tour event. With weather earlier in the week pushing everything back, the Genesis Open on Sunday had to go from CBS to Golf Channel for the final hour. Golf Channel drew 1.7 million viewers for that handoff. That is just below the 1.9 million viewers for the Pebble Beach event just a week earlier....FS1 drew 478,000 viewers for the PBA Players Championship on Sunday, the net’s best bowling telecast to date.

The chart below lists final audience figures from select recent sports telecasts.
