MLB Puts Yanks' Pinstripes, Red Sox' White Unis On Display For London

The Red Sox and Yankees play will both "wear their home uniforms" for their series in London from June 29-30, according to Peter Abraham of the BOSTON GLOBE. The Red Sox "will be the home team for both games," meaning they will wear white, but MLB "wants the Yankees to wear the iconic home pinstripes for the game for marketing purposes as opposed to their gray road uniforms" (BOSTON GLOBE, 2/19). NBCSPORTS.com's Craig Calcaterra wrote the move is "marketing more than anything, as you can’t really put your league’s marquee franchise on an international stage and not have it wearing its iconic duds." It is also "pretty harmless." Baseball is "not like football or basketball in which you have to have contrasting uniforms in order to keep one side from accidentally throwing the ball to the opposition or what have you" (NBCSPORTS.com, 2/18).
