FC Cincinnati Ditches Stadium's Orange Glow After Local Concerns

Removing the plans for the orange glow lightning will also cut down on constriction costsMEIS

The "orange glowing inflatable-pool like rendering" of FC Cincinnati's stadium in the West End neighborhood is "no more," according to Sharon Coolidge of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER. Team officials said that the internal lighting was "axed to accommodate neighborhood residents who were concerned," as well as to "cut costs" for construction. Elevar Design Group President Kim Patton, whose company helped design the stadium, said that the once-orange lighting is "now slated to be more traditional lighting, similar to Great American Ball Park and Paul Brown Stadium," and the venue's "facade will be different." Coolidge notes the roof and stadium facades were to be made from "material that allows for varying colors and patterns to be displayed on the translucent surface." Now, Patton said the stadium will be "less glowing, more downwardly focused" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 2/6).

CHANGE OF PLANS: In Cincinnati, Chris Wetterich notes the latest plans for the stadium show a six-story, 62,500-square-foot with "three stories of parking including 428 parking spaces, with some of it underground, and future development." A two-story plaza would also "front Central Parkway south of the structure." The latest concept plans indicate that additional development "could include commercial, housing, hotel, restaurants and bars, office, a market or a cultural institution." Stadium construction is expected to start in May with an opening date set for March '21 (BIZJOURNALS.com, 2/6).
