South Florida Getting Ready For Super Bowl LIV Spotlight In '20

Dolphins officials want to host another Super Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in '25, '26 or '27GETTY IMAGES

Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium is just a year away, and South Florida '20 Super Bowl Host Committee Chair Rodney Barreto is tasked with making sure fans "see the best of a Miami that has changed in many ways since the Super Bowl was last in town" in '10, according to Adam Beasley of the MIAMI HERALD. Barreto, who is serving in the position for the third time, said, "You’re really seeing a different Miami. People are going to come to our town and see a completely different town." The host committee on Monday is set to release a "hype video narrated by what they are calling a very recognizable Miami voice." Host Committee VP/Communications Janelle Prieto has been "one of some 30 South Florida representatives" in Atlanta for Super Bowl LIII this week. Aside from the game itself next year, the "biggest event of the week will be Super Bowl Live, a free, weeklong festival in Bayfront Park featuring concerts, family-friendly activities, games and NFL exhibits." Prieto said, "People see the Super Bowl and they go, ‘Oh, that’s something corporate, we can’t go.’ It’s a free event and it’s going to allow all the communities to come together, really get a taste of what the NFL is and what the game is." Beasley noted the host committee "wants 10,000 volunteers to act as ambassadors for the city." Barreto said that his "biggest challenge in the coming year is 'all the coordination of all the people involved'" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 1/31).

PREPARATION IS KEY: The South Florida Host Committee is on the ground this week shadowing the Atlanta host committee and taking notes on best practices, but Barreto is no stranger to the Big Game. “I’ve been involved with Super Bowls for 30 years," he said. "It’s so fun to see the evolution of the game.” Barreto noted the landscape and essence of the city has transformed since '10. Barreto: “People should not be surprised with our level of sophistication. Miami is not only the most exciting city in America; we believe it’s the most exciting city in the world” (THE DAILY).

READY FOR MORE: In West Palm Beach, Hal Habib notes Barreto recently "signed a letter of interest to the NFL confirming" the city would like to host the Super Bowl again in '25, ’26 or ’27 -- the next three years available. It is "uncertain when the NFL will vote on those games." Barreto: “We’re back in the rotation.” Habib notes that is likely "thanks to the half-billion dollar investment Dolphins owner Stephen Ross made toward overhauling Hard Rock Stadium" (PALM BEACH POST, 2/1).
