NASCAR Prohibits Team Owners, Drivers From Gambling On Events

NASCAR's policy does allow drivers and other members to take part in certain DFS games GETTY IMAGES

NASCAR has introduced a policy that "prohibits team owners, drivers, crew members and officials from gambling on events," according to Matt Weaver of AUTO WEEK. NASCAR yesterday listed penalties for betting that could include "indefinite suspension or termination and/or a fine of $150,000-$200,000." The policy was "put together with Sportrader Integrity Services." In October, Dover Int'l Speedway became the first track that hosts NASCAR to "introduce an at-track betting service." The new policy "prohibits the equivalent to insider trading, prohibiting team owners, drivers, crew members and series officials from disclosing confidential information for the purposes of enabling or facilitating gambling as it pertains to NASCAR events." The policy does allow NASCAR members to "take part in fantasy games relating to any events in which NASCAR is involved as so long as they do not accept prizes with a value in excess of $250" (AUTOWEEK.com, 1/29).
