Largest Sunday X Games Attendance Helps Tie Total Weekend Record

Year-over-year, about 2,000 more people passed through the gates of the eventESPN IMAGES

The final day X Games Aspen "saw the largest crowds for a Sunday in the event's history, as 43,000 turned out," according to a front-page piece by Madeleine Osberger of the ASPEN DAILY NEWS. Sunday's numbers, combined with a "comparably sized Saturday, meant total Aspen attendance tied a previous X Games record of 117,000." Year-over-year, about 2,000 more people "passed through the gates" of the event. ESPN Dir of Communications for West Coast Publicity & X Games Danny Chi said that all four concerts at the event's 8,000-capacity venue, including performances by Lil Wayne and The Chainsmokers, were "sold out." Aspen Skiing Co. Senior VP/Sales & Events John Rigney said that while he thought the weekend "went really well," he agreed that "egress is one of the areas that could use some tweaks." Osberger noted extending programming into Sunday night, as has been done the past two years, "probably boosted the final day's numbers" (ASPEN DAILY NEWS, 1/29).
