Franchise Notes

In Seattle, Geoff Baker reported the city's NHL expansion group is "still apparently leaning toward hiring" a GM this year "rather than next" year to prepare for a '21 expansion draft. But the team "won't interview" candidates from opposing teams next week in San Jose as the "hockey world gathers" for the NHL All-Star Game. NHL Seattle President & CEO Tod Leiweke and his group "can wait until after the season for interviews." But that "doesn’t prevent" them from "compiling a short list right now" (SEATTLE TIMES, 1/21).

THIRSTY FOR MORE: Ticket sales for Brewers Spring Training games in Phoenix are "up sharply" after the team's run to the NLCS. Brewers Senior VP/Communications & Affiliate Operations Tyler Barnes said sales are "very strong for the first season of Brewers Fields of Phoenix." Fans will "enjoy a renovated and renamed" ballpark, a $60M project that the Brewers began last spring (JSONLINE.com, 1/21).

A STORM OF SWORDS: In Las Vegas, Alan Snel noted Golden Knights Owner Bill Foley on Saturday night appeared in a pregame video, as did "his own helicopter" in a spot that "re-introduced the sword-in-stone feature that Foley likes so much." Foley "played a creative role in the making of the military-themed video," working with Golden Knights VP/Entertainment Production Jonny Greco. Team President Kerry Bubolz: "Fans deserve an active and engaged owner and that’s what we have with Bill" (LVSPORTSBIZ.com, 1/20).
