Silver Says There Is Strong Interest In WNBA President Position

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver claims there has been a "lot of interest" in the vacant WNBA President position and that the unnamed search firm the league is using to find a replacement for Lisa Borders "has a pretty significant pool of candidates," according to Doug Feinberg of the AP. Borders left her position in October, and Silver said that the WNBA ideally would "find someone who had extensive basketball knowledge, have very strong business skills" to replace her. Silver: "The league is going into its 23rd season and it's not a secret that we haven't cracked the code on how to make money in women's basketball. ... We have to set this league on a path to sustainability." Feinberg noted whomever the WNBA hires will have to "deal with negotiations" for a new CBA. The players' union decided to "opt out of the current CBA, giving the sides plenty of time to negotiate a new one." The union's decision "won't affect" the '19 season because the deal ends on Oct. 31 (AP, 12/28).
