Coyotes CEO Says Team Would Stay In Desert If Ownership Changes

Coyotes President & CEO Ahron Cohen in a letter to fans directly addressed rumblings of an imminent change in ownership, reiterating that any potential deal involving a change in ownership "would be predicated on the Coyotes remaining in Arizona for the foreseeable future," according to Richard Morin of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. He wrote, "We will continue to explore investment opportunities to better assist our team in achieving our long-term goals and organizational vision." Cohen noted the club is "continuing to seek creative solutions in order to better finance its future." Meanwhile, sources said that the Coyotes would "certainly have interest" in playing outdoor games, especially if it also "featured a team that dwells in a warm-weather climate such as themselves." State Farm Stadium, Chase Field or even the newly renovated Sun Devil Stadium could "provide an excellent backdrop for an outdoor game." Perhaps if the Coyotes can "figure out their own long-term arena solution in Arizona, they could eventually be in the mix for some outdoor hockey" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 1/2). SPORTSNET.ca's Josh Beneteau noted Cohen "believes that hockey will thrive in the state, and is hoping future investors believe that too" (SPORTSNET.ca, 1/1).
