London, AT&T Park Getting Traction As Potential Raiders Home In '19

London has now become an "option for the Raiders" to play their '19 season following the team's dispute with Oakland over playing one more year in Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, according to Fox' Jay Glazer. It is currently being discussed for the team to play in London next year, but officials are "still trying to figure it out." Other owners have "brought it up to the Raiders and the Raiders are discussing it." Glazer: "Do they play four home games, four away games, and back and forth?" ("Fox NFL Sunday," 12/23). Meanwhile, the Raiders and MLB Giants "remain in talks" about the possibility playing at AT&T Park. A source said the Raiders playing at the S.F. ballpark next season is a "distinct possibility" (NBCBAYAREA.com, 12/21). In San Jose, Peterson & Crowley noted the Giants confirmed that they have "engaged in initial dialogue with the Raiders" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 12/22).

IS LONDON REALLY CALLING? ESPN NFL analyst Bobby Carpenter said of the Raiders possibly playing in London, “Where would they station themselves? They're not going to be flying from Vegas out there for eight home games a year. Do they find a place on the East Coast? I don't know if you’d want to relocate your entire football operations like that.” ESPN’s Chiney Ogwumike said, “I know we do the London game(s), but a whole season? How is that for the team? I know it's hard for the visitors. What about the home guys?” (“Golic & Wingo,” ESPN Radio, 12/25).

GETTING TERRITORIAL? In San Diego, Tom Krasovic noted if the Raiders aim to play in S.F. next year, the 49ers "probably would have a say because of the 90-mile rule that gives them territorial rights." But the league has an "interest in the matter, and if it wants the Raiders to stay in the Bay Area rather than play in, say, San Diego or Reno or Nome, the league probably could change the rule and allow the Raiders one season near their current home before the move to their Vegas venue" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 12/23). Meanwhile, in San Jose, Dieter Kurtenbach wrote Raiders Owner Mark Davis "isn’t a fan of playing at the publicly funded Levi’s Stadium because of his ego." The Raiders also "don’t like the Astroturf in San Antonio’s Alamodome" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 12/23).
