Redskins' Turmoil Continues As Fans Exit Early During Blowout Loss

Redskins attendance has waned as the team has dropped four straight gamesGETTY IMAGES

The Redskins' 40-16 loss to the Giants yesterday was the team's "worst game" of the season, and at halftime a crowd formed around FedExField’s west gate as fans "wanted to get out," according to Les Carpenter of the WASHINGTON POST. The announced crowd of 57,437 "dwindled to something resembling half that number." Yesterday's happenings come as the Redskins "have gone into a complete collapse in recent weeks," dropping to 6-7 on the season after a 6-3 start (WASHINGTON POST, 12/10). In DC, Jerry Brewer writes after watching a sparse FedExField crowd "boo loudly and then vanish at halftime," a "gloom falls over the franchise -- again -- and it demands two things: an open door and a strong foot to kick out a few ineffectual leaders." Even "more problematic" than the Redskins' on-field play is team President Bruce Allen. If there is a "price to pay for the cumulative mismanagement and chaos and it doesn’t include Allen," then Redskins Owner Dan Snyder "has done nothing." Unless there is "accountability at the highest level of the front office, the franchise won’t change" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/10). Also in DC, Thom Loverro writes there is a "disconnect everywhere when it comes to this organization." There is a "disconnect between reality" and Allen, as well as "between the damaged Redskins fan base and this organization." Allen is the "most hated figure among the dwindling fan base" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 12/10). The WASHINGTON POST's Dan Steinberg noted former Redskins pregame radio show host Kevin Sheehan "lit into the club’s leadership on his podcast this week." Sheehan said, "Nobody wants Bruce back. Can we all agree on that? I haven’t met one person who wants him back" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 12/9).
