Shaq Turns TNT Halftime Show Into Impromptu Icy Hot Infomercial
The Knicks-Celtics halftime show Thursday night on TNT morphed into an infomercial for Icy Hot, as Shaquille O’Neal, who endorses the product, discussed Celtics F Jaylen Brown coming back from a back injury. O’Neal: “One of the toughest things to do is come back from injury and play well. But he had those back pains, he gave me a call and I gave him some Icy Hot.” During a highlight of Brown driving to the basket and scoring, O’Neal said he was “twisting and turning that back, that Icy Hot does the job.” At that point, TNT’s Ernie Johnson sounded a bit exasperated, saying, “Oh stop, dude.” The next highlight, according to O’Neal, included an “Icy Hot move.” Another video clip showed Brown running the court because, as O'Neal said, the “Icy Hot is so hot he’s running.” O’Neal: “Man up, Jaylen Brown, with Icy Hot.” Johnson then said, “You’ve heard from the general,” in reference to O’Neal’s endorsement of The General insurance company. Laughing, O’Neal replied, “You see what I did there, Kenny?” TNT’s Kenny Smith got into the theme of the halftime as well, and despite not being an endorser for Icy Hot, said while analyzing some highlights, “That was an Icy Hot move.” O’Neal replied, “Got you Kenny, check’s in the mail" (“Knicks-Celtics,” TNT, 12/6).
