Super Bowl, CFP Top StubHub's Best-Selling Sporting Events For '18

StubHub issued a report on its '18 ticket market activity, with the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles looming large throughout. The company’s fourth annual “Year In Live Experiences” study not surprisingly found that Super Bowl LII in February was the resale marketplace’s top-selling sports event in the U.S. for the entire year. The Eagles’ presence helped StubHub to a 34% bump in Super Bowl sales from the year before, while the Jan. 21 NFC Championship game in Philadelphia ranked seventh on the sports list. The team’s Oct. 28 game in London against the Jaguars did not make the Top 10 list, but still represented StubHub’s highest-selling NFL London game ever. The Eagles were also StubHub’s best-selling NFL team overall for the year. The CFP Championship Game, meanwhile, ranked second on StubHub’s year-end event list, up from ninth in ’17. The World Series was again a major presence on the list, also not surprising given the company’s deep ties to MLB, with Games 3-5 of this year’s Red Sox-Dodgers matchup filling out the rest of the top five and Game 2 ranking ninth. The Warriors were again the top NBA team on StubHub, while the Golden Knights took NHL honors. The Yankees were StubHub’s top MLB team in the regular season, but the Dodgers' second straight trip to the World Series made it the marketplace’s top baseball team when including the postseason. StubHub, meanwhile, also saw a marked uptick in international sales activity, with nearly 200,000 customers crossing a foreign border to attend a game, concert or other entertainment event during the year.
