League Notes

The AP's Ken Maguire notes the NBA has "big plans for Africa." The league has staged an "annual exhibition game" in the country for years, but now Africa is "ready for more." NBA Deputy Commissioner & COO Mark Tatum said that the league is "creating a pan-African league that will involve existing professional clubs, and that NBA pre-season and regular-season games will be held on the continent 'in the next couple of years.'" He added that details of the pan-African league "will be announced within months." It will "involve co-operation from FIBA and existing professional leagues" (AP, 11/29).

HEADING TO THE EXIT: In Toronto, Kevin McGran reports Graeme Roustan, a venture capitalist and "one of the biggest fundraisers" for the CWHL, has "cut ties with league, citing a lack of faith in the new leadership while questioning their handling of expenses." Roustan "got fed up with the league’s new leadership when he was denied access to how the not-for-profit association approved its expenses." The CWHL has "seen a dozen key donors and executives exit over the past 18 months." Commissioner Brenda Andruss "resigned in the spring" and was "replaced on an interim basis" by former CWHL player Jayna Hefford (TORONTO STAR, 11/29).

PRETTY PENNY: The AP's Ronald Blum noted premium seats at London's Olympic Stadium for next year's Red Sox-Yankees series June 29-30 will cost $493, with the "top non-premium seats near the infield" costing $410. The lowest-priced tickets in the venue's second deck cost $38. A presale for Yankees and Red Sox season ticket holders starts tomorrow, and a presale for those who have "pre-registered begins Monday." The general on-sale date is Dec. 6 (AP, 11/28).
