ESPN Could Bring Back Revamped Version Of "Baseball Tonight"

ESPN's "Baseball Tonight," which was discontinued on a daily basis in '17, may be in line to "come back in some form," as the program that ESPN "borrows from MLB Network, 'Intentional Talk,' is in limbo," according to Andrew Marchand of the N.Y. POST. Sources said that ESPN already has "had talks to add" former MLBer Ryan Howard. The net previously "signed Yahoo’s Jeff Passan to be its Adam Schefter of baseball." He will "begin in January." ESPN may also "look to acquire another analyst or two." ESPN "began borrowing" "Intentional Talk" after layoffs in April '17. It was "signed for two years, with the agreement concluding in April of next year." While no final decision "has been made on 'Intentional Talk’s' ESPN future, it would be surprising if it returned." The new “Baseball Tonight” may "not just take 'Intentional Talk’s' time slot." It could "run later in the evening as more of a reaction show and could be housed" on ESPN2 or ESPN+. ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro "believes in baseball more" than former ESPN President John Skipper did, while Exec VP & Exec Editor/Studio Production Norby Williamson has "been empowered to reignite ESPN’s studio shows." Meanwhile, ESPN is "not expected to change" its "Sunday Night Baseball" booth of Matt Vasgersian, Alex Rodriguez and Jessica Mendoza (NYPOST.com, 10/31).
