National Soccer HOF In Frisco To Showcase Latest In Technology

A celebration will be held this weekend at Toyota Stadium for the opening of the new National Soccer HOF, with a goal to make Frisco "synonymous with soccer," according to Valerie Wigglesworth of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. The HOF will have 13 interactive exhibits powered by facial recognition technology that "showcase the latest in virtual reality, gesture technology and green screens" mixed in with "about 400 prized artifacts dating to 1899." The mix of old artifacts and new technology is "providing a fresh boost to Frisco's Sports City USA brand" as the HOF becomes the "latest addition to the city's roster of tourist attractions." The HOF's opening will be "part of an invitation-only induction ceremony," which includes a "sold-out concert" featuring The Revivalists and Imagine Dragons. MLS Commissioner Don Garber headlines the induction class. The inaugural HOF game between FC Dallas and Sporting KC will be Sunday, followed by a NASL 50th anniversary match. The HOF "opens to the public Nov. 2." National Soccer HOF Exec Dir Djorn Buchholz said that because of the facial recognition technology, "no two visitors will have the same experience." Visitors will "have their photos taken at the entrance and input their favorite teams as they rank their soccer knowledge on a sliding scale." Those details will "help customize their experience" at the HOF. A virtual skill challenge will let fans "don headsets and step into the virtual goal box to get instructions from goalkeepers Tim Howard or Briana Scurry on high-pressure saves" (DALLASNEWS.com, 10/16).
