Garth Brooks Using Football Venues For Tour, Including Gillette Stadium

Country singer Garth Brooks announced a three-year concert tour that will "exclusively play" at "massive" venues such as football stadiums, according to Phyllis Stark of BILLBOARD. Brooks' stadium tour is "expected to total around 30 shows," and he will "play 10-12 stadiums a year." Brooks said that the plan was "originally envisioned as being exclusively limited to college stadiums," but it has expanded to "also encompass some professional stadiums for routing purposes." Brooks: "We lost a lot of good markets that we'd love to be playing but we can't get to because the athletic department won't let us in because of things that happen." Brooks specifically referenced a Jay-Z and Beyonce concert at the Univ. of South Carolina, where fans did an "estimated $15,000 to $200,000 worth of damage" to the Williams-Brice Stadium field. Stark noted most of Brooks' tour is "expected to take place outside football season in the spring and summer." Tickets to five of the shows will "go on sale before Christmas," including ones at the Dome at America's Center in St. Louis and State Farm Stadium in Phoenix. The other three are "still in contract negotiations." Brooks said that one of the shows on the tour will "be at Gillette Stadium," and two others will be in Texas and Tennessee (BILLBOARD.com, 10/17). Brooks is playing a concert at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday (THE DAILY).
